The homestead of Josip Jurčič

The birthplace of the first Slovenian writer, Josip Jurčič, has been rebuilt as an open-air museum with the help of the Slovenian Ethnographic Institute. The house is open for visitors who can see the former living rooms of a farmer's family: hall, kitchen, big and small room. All rooms are equipped in traditional country style and evoke the surroundings well-to-do Slovenian farmers lived in. The homestead includes utility buildings, e.g. beehives with hand-painted panels, corn crib, flax drier and barn.

Next to the homestead is a natural ampitheatre, where adaptations of Josip Jurčič novels are performed annually by the local amateur theatre group in June.

Izvir reke Krke

The source of the Krka river is in a 200-meter cave Krška or Primčeva jama which is easily accessible, illuminated and open for visitors. The temperature in the cave is 8 to 9 ˚C. It invites in the mysterious world of silence, stalagnites and stalactites, bats, cave bugs. There is an underground lake in which lives an endemic species: proteus anguineus, an aquatic salamander found in the deep caves of the Slovene karst region.

The longest Slovenian river, Krka, flows out of the cave when the water level is relatively high, otherwise it bubbles out just in front of the cave. The second spring is below a crag, a few hundred meters away from the cave.A long time ago there was supposed to be a castle above the crag that was mentioned in one of Josip Jurčič's short stories (Jurij Kozjak).
